I have a feeling that most of you have already heard about
this story, but I wanted to add my two cents.
Several years ago, a guy named Ryan McHenry made a Vine
video called “Ryan Gosling won’t eat his cereal” which mashed up a video of the
celebrity Ryan Gosling refusing to eat a spoonful of cereal that repeatedly
comes towards his mouth. It is mostly
just a silly little thing, but a lot of celebrities would be worried about
defending the trademark on their faces and would ask the creator to take it
down. Not that this particular video is
bad, but because if you don’t protect your face in some situations, it can hurt
your ability to defend it in other cases when you might really want to.
But he didn’t. He
acted much more like people should in a more socially sane, legally less
paranoid world. But recently, he made me
proud in a way that celebrities rarely do these days. Ryan McHenry found out that he was suffering
from osteosarcoma (bone cancer) soon after the Vine video. He fought the
disease and raised a lot of money for research.
But recently, he succumbed to the disease and passed away.
In response Ryan Gosling made a tribute Vine showing himself
finally eating his cereal.
That’s the way it should be!
